5 Ways to Improve Your Video Conference Presence

April 18th 2023

As remote work and online meetings become more prevalent, it’s important to make sure that you’re presenting yourself in the best possible way during video conferences. Here are five ways to improve your video conference presence:

1. Dress appropriately: Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you should show up to a meeting in your pajamas. Dress as you would for an in-person meeting to show that you take the video conference seriously.

2. Check your lighting: Make sure that you’re well-lit during the call. Natural light is the best option, so sit near a window if possible. Avoid having a light source behind you, as that can create a silhouette effect.

3. Use a quality microphone and camera: If possible, invest in a decent microphone and camera to improve the quality of your audio and video. This will help you come across as more professional and make it easier for others to hear and see you.

4. Eliminate background noise: Find a quiet space for your call and turn off any noise-making devices, such as TVs or radios. If you can’t completely eliminate background noise, consider using noise-cancelling headphones or a headset.

5. Practice good video conference etiquette: Be on time for the call and make sure that your microphone and camera are working properly before the meeting starts. During the call, avoid multitasking or doing anything distracting, such as checking your phone or eating. Pay attention to the speaker and be an active participant in the discussion.

By following these tips, you can improve your video conference presence and make a positive impression on your colleagues and clients during virtual meetings.
